Epilogue
Carter had struggled with diabetes since the age of 14, and was stricken with kidney
failure in August of 1996. He was on life support for a week, and in intensive care almost a month before coming home. After 8 months of dialysis he was given a kidney/pancreas transplant at the University of Chicago Hospitals May 14th, 1997. He was re-transplanted with another pancreas August 23rd, 1997 after the first was rejected. He enjoyed 16 months insulin free. In December of 1998 the pancreas failed and he became diabetic again.
Through all this, Carter remained the strongest and most courageous person I have ever known. Most of his acquaintances never even knew he was ill. He was a smiling and cheerful person to the very end. Carter Lee Scott passed away suddenly March 26, 1999 of an apparent heart attack.
Rest in peace honey, I miss you.
